Writing

I largely write short stories and flash fiction which, more often than not, contain a dash of magical realism. Some examples:

Short stories

Straw Houses

"I didn't mean to build a house out of straw. I'm not a complete idiot..." My modern take on the three little pigs was published in the charity anthology Stories for Homes Volume 2, in support of housing charity Shelter.

Bloody Marys and a
Bowl of Pho

Published by Arachne Press in Stations - an anthology  of stories based on the East London overground train line. My station was Hoxton, and the tale I tell was inspired by Hoxton Street Monster Supplies - a shop which really does exist! I also wrote a two part guest blog for Arachne Press, describing how the story came about and trying to capture some of the process of writing it.

Three Months

Perfomed at Liars League as part of their 2018 Kiss and Tell Valentines themed event, this story is a little different from the ones I usually write, and grew out of an exercise in a writing workshop, where  we were tasked with creating an unreliable narrator. Actor Clareine Cronan gave a brilliant performance which perfectly captured the awfulness of the one I came up with.

Breaking the Duck

Published in issue 6 of Open Pen Magazine, which is now out of print (but ask me and I'll send you a copy, if you like). One reader had this to say: "If I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be Breaking The Duck, because it handles the progress  and passage of time so deftly, as also the introduction of new characters. The pyrotechnics of the story are really understated and quiet but really impressive."
